Post Got Koni's, car is still a tow truck on the corners

Wipping hard 90 degree turns still don't feel that much better.
Got the yellows in the front 2.5 turns to firm (as far as it would go) and the ones on the back in the medium setting. Car feels like it's still rolling to damn much, what would be some steps to take in modifying the suspension to EXTREME measures, no holding back I want it to stick to the road like **** on a stick. I just don't find any reason to upgrade the 'performance' of the car ANYMORE than it already is JUST so that I can lower the life, be stupid and die, and still have to slow down for turn X. Only other 'performance' upgrades I intend to do are just 'freeing' up restrictions. - ProFlow MAF with custom J pipe, and maybe, MAYBE 3" D/P, T/P, S/P & muffler replacement.

Well, I guess that leaves springs, torsion bars, and sway bars.

Strut braces should be in the next stage then? I figured that the sways/springs/strut brace would be about the first order, thanks Tabor. Anymore out there?

Since it's the rolling that bothers you, thicker antisway bars might be the logical next step. But you really want to make sure you don't have any issues like worn ball joints or bad alignment first. If those things are bad the car won't take a 'set' in the curves and flop around and such.

Craig read this <a href="http://www.davidsims.ukgateway.net/944t/suspension.htm" target="_blank">http://www.davidsims.ukgateway.net/944t/suspension.htm</a>

Find a balanced set up. Stiff will only be , well, stiff. Sounds like your fronts are too stiff for everyday driving. It will cause the tires to chatter, especially if your spring rates are overdamped.
Make a list of the ideal set up you want, install it, then fine tune it for the ride quality you want.
Good luck g.

Shocks only controls the velocity of the lean motion. It does not control the limit to which the car will lean. In steady-state cornering, shocks does absolutely nothing for your cornering ability.

You can upgrade your suspension parts all you want and you might see a 10% improvement in cornering speed. Put on a set of Yokohama A032R tires and you'll get that without monkeying around with your suspension at all.

I beg to differ on that point. Shocks will certainly regulate the movement of the springs while "leaning" in a corner. Steady state? All cornering is dynamic. A properly tuned set of shocks and matched springs will certainly help your cornering. And as far as tires go , I guess that's why you race on slicks.

What Tabor said...

Thad's right about roll control. I'm about to go through my suspension soon too. I'm going to change ALL suspension bushings, springs, t-bars, and shocks. Still debating spring rates, but, somewhere b/t stock & 250lb w/hollow t-bars and PROBABLY Bilsteins, or, have Koni's rebuilt- I plan to contact Koni to ask about it. I think Danno's talked me into Bilsteins b/c of their overall range- this being a street car. I'll do sways and a strut brace soon after. BTW, check out Lindsey Racing's project car site, if you haven't. They had really large sways, and ended up going back to smaller ones (I think stock 951 MO30?) b/c it actually made their car faster! According to them, the car had too much sway- their car was around 2700lbs at the time I believe...

Anyway, you haven't mentioned anything about your spring rates- did you change them? If you're running stock, then you might want to think about going up a little. Also, have you checked your a-arms? If you're made of $$$, then go for billet (Charlie or Fabcar?)- that would be nice. You definately want to make sure the a-arms are in good condition though, ESPECIALLY if you start running larger sways...

Uhh... what tire pressures are you running?

Jim, too simple, I suppose...

Hi Danno,

keep in mind that BOTH shocks are active during driving corners.
The curve-outside-shock helps alot to prevent rolling.
