Exclamation I have a broken Transmission mount, and I'm Happy about it!

I finally got around to investigating the drive play in my 89 NA, assuming it would mean a clutch job. It turns out the tranny mount is breaking. The rubber is is separating from the steel mount. Much better than a full clutch job! Does anyone know if the 951 used a different mount (stronger) and if so would it fit? Thanks,

Mike

I wouldn't suggest using a solid koeklin mount but you could re-enforce your stock mount with what Larry Parker suggests. - [quote]Originally posted by Larry Parker:

window weld (a super stiff rubber gunk) which worked
great....to remove the mount took less than 15 mins.
Then pump that mount full of that stuff and then you need to let it sit for a day or two, then 15 mins to re-install....

I had heard of alot of guys doing this to there motor mounts on dsm's so i felt it would be a good
idea to try it......worked great.....

good luck

Good luck from me too

Luke,

Are you sure? Have you ridden in a car with solid transmission mount? I have a feeling they are rubber from the factory for a reason. I know that solid engine mounts will rattle your teath out.

I think the solid transmission mounts may be intended for race only.

I agree with you tabor!

I think you mis read

I have ridden in larry's car with the re-enforced rubber and It doesn't shake at all. It is much nicer than just the rubber oe mount. THe oe mounts are too soft from the get go. and a re-enforced mount would probably last twice as long!

Whoops, I think I read your message as "I would suggest using a solid koeklin mount."

This is what I get for not being able to read.

Mike,
I thought my mounts were bad. I picked up a couple used from Parts Heaven for $25/ea. Turns out my clutch is bad. (What can I say, I'm lazy, and my jack was broke so I just assumed) They're in fine condition....if you want 'em, you can have them for the same price and I would cover shipping.

Which mount are we talking about here? The two rubber mounts that hang the exhaust or the single one that hangs the actual transmission? I seems that removing the one that hangs the tranny would be VERY difficult to do. Is it a tough job or can it be done by lowering the tranny down onto a jack while still leaving it connected to the torque tube?
