Default 87 924S no start. Where's the DME relay?

Last week a picked up a 87 924S. Car is in very decent shape and was a DD. Starts and runs strong. No apparent issues. Took it for a short ride and parked for an hour. When I went to start it cranked (strong) but didn't start. Reading here I thought maybe DME, but I DO get a little jump in the tach when starting so I'm thinking relay. I can go pick one up tomorrow at the local autoparts store but as I'm new to the 924S and no manual came with the car - I'm not quote sure where the relay is located. I believe it's in the footwell of the pass side under the carpet. Is that correct? (That's where it is on a 928). Also as I don't have the fuse chart - can someone point out which relay is the DME relay? A picture would be ideal.

Is there any links for an online copy of the owners manual? (i'll order one from Ebay too)

Thanks,

Your fuse panel is the same as an early 944, here is a link for the fuse panel.

Thanks. So is the fuse panel in the floor or on the side?

Thanks. I assume it is under a cover of some sort. I'll check tomorrow in day light. Yes, I have a tach bounce when I crank.

Found it. No cover. Is that correct? Tapped/wiggled and she started right up!

Do you guys think the relay just worked itself loose or is the realy on its way out or are there typically problems with the relay panel seat? Or all the above.

I would take it out and clean the legs of the relay and the socket that the legs go into. Also order a spear dme relay just in case.

Any recommendations for a OEM supplier and vendor for a replacement relay? Porsche dealer wanted $95 bucks! I found one by Stribel which is listed as an OEM supplier to Porsche on Pelican. Product Information: 993-615-227-01-M76. Does that sound right? $27.75. Just not sure since I also see these PN 993 615 227 00 AND 944 615 227 00 online too.

Can't pull mine to check the PN as I just drove it over the local shop to have them fix my loose shifter cup. I'll order a spare nontheless but want to verify the PN.

is this the 944S that just sold on ebay?

was watching that as I just got an 87 944S blk/blk not running. my fuel pump was definitely dead, so already replaced it along with strainer, filter, and hoses. still waiting for the injectors to come back from being cleaned to see if she'll fire up. I borrowed a spare relay from a friend for testing if it does not.

once running my bro-in-law wants to steal mine from me. as in does not want to pay 'market price' but expects 'friends and family price', along with someone who will fix it for him when needed. but I'll let him have it too cheap to enjoy for a bit.

so already have my sights on a 944 turbo project car.

good luck with your 944S.

No, mine is a 924s. Found it on Craig's list. Enjoy your 944s though.

I was traveling and was wondering why I had not heard from the shop. Seems they have hot been able to get her started. Tapping the relay isnt working this time. The new relay arrives today and hopefully they can get her started.

If I'm getting tach bounce, and if the relay is not the problem, what are my list of likely culprits? Reading here, it is not my DME or sensors and I don't think FOR because it runs smooth when running.

I'll have them replace all fuses and check all grounds. Anyone have a diagram of the grounds and their locations?
