Post door guard strip bumber thingees

I'm not sure what the correct term for these things is. It's the small strip that runs down the center of the door, starting at the back of the front fender, and ending just after the door on the rear one. You know what I'm talking about, right?

Anyways, here's my question: When were these a standard feature, if ever? I've seen lots of cars with them, lots without, and I can't seem to figure out which ones should have them. MY shot-in-the-dark guess is that they were just an option. Also, if I wanted to put some on my car (it doesn't have them) what would be involved?

Thanks!

not sure if they were ever standard. Glad I have them, I think they add a nice element to the 944 lines. Good luck.

Well, I found a set of "side moulding" on pelican parts. I assume that's what it is, but they don't have a picture.

Price: $713.

YOW !@#!@#

If I knew how they mounted to the doors, I could most likely find a set somewhere and have my body guy paint them up really nice. Maybe I'll look into it more. Anyone else have any experience with these things?

They cost 140 canadian bucks a side. The installation is simple and listed in the 944/951 shop manual.
