Question To turbo or not to turbo?

Well, after dealing with my moms 88 Volvo 240 for the past year, it is now time for me to move on to bigger and better things, namely the Porsche 944! Im still not sure whether or not to get a turbo or not. Are the turbos any less relilable than the NAs? Coming from a 240 w/ a 0-60 of about 13 sec. almost anything will seem sporty, I would however enjoy beating the pants off of some dink in a riced out Civic at a red light...so i guess what it boils down to is this...will i be satisfied with a chipped/K&N/whatever else NA or do i really need to get a turbo? Any info or advice at all would be appreciated! Thanks!

PS I found a local 86 944na w/ 69k, new waterpump, trans, and timing belt, power chip and air cone for $4000....should i jump on it?? Thanks!

Well, pal. My 944 personally gets 0-60 in 7.3 Seconds w/ a 150Lb passenger and I weigh 190. But mines had work, I'm 16 and LIKE to go fast, but even I can tell you DON'T turbo your car. The 944 Turbos (951's) were designed differently. A 944 Turbo isn't a 944 w/ a turbo on it, piston compression ratio is different, gaskets are stronger, tons of stuff. There are other ways to go faster trust me, but Turboing it is not the answer in my opinion, the Torque might screw your rear end over, and if you're not expierenced you can damage the car greatly. Thanks, I'll be happy to help you iun any way, because I have the same problem as you do, beating the riced out hondas!

OH!!!!
Hey man i'm sorry!
Ok.
The book speeds are as follows
Porsch 944 N/A 0-60 8.1 Seconds
-Redline Speeds:
-1st - 33MPH about
-2nd - 62.5MPH
-3rd - 80MPH
-4th - 110MPH ( i think )
-5th - Unknown because this car will not redline in 5th gear

Porsche 951 0-60 5.5 Seconds
-Redline Speeds
-1st - I don't know but i'm guessing around 52MPH
-2nd - 83MPH
-3rd - 115MPH (i think)
-4th - I don't know
-5th - 163 MPH
Porsche 951 Runs it's 1/4 mile in 13.6
But hey, dude I can help you drop that time VERY easily. Go for the 951, I can help you shop also. Got ICQ or AIM?

Hey thanks! My aim name is purplejag21 and my zip is 34242 in Sarasota, FL (about an hour south of Tampa).I figure if i find a car out of state that i cant just fly over and drive back, transporting it on a flatbed wont be a problem, so i guess im really searching everywhere. Well, i did find one in TN. Its only $4750 and i get TWO porsches!! He has an 85 944 turbo and a 944na as a doner car to the turbo! The turbo had a bad AC compressor (but the na has a good one), the left rear bearing is bad (but the na has a good one), a cracked manifold and radiator...and the rest looks good...72k miles, exec. paint, most records, exec interior. So what do you all think?
