Am thinking of installing central locks on my car.
When looking under the dash, it appears the main wiring harness is already there! Is this correct. Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has done this & is there a parts list?

Joe: your '87 has central electric door locks, factory installed. Check your owner's manual. If yours aren't working, check fuses and relays. After installing my alarm, I hooked up the existing lock system to the remote for keyless entry and security. It's sweet! The guts of the locking mechanism electronics are, I believe, in the center consol near the button. Good luck!

Dano,
My option schedule does not list central locking or power locks. I don't have button on console. The control box that is on the steering column is missing, however it looks like I have the wiring harness. Is this possible??

I seen that Porsche tends to use only one wiring harness, to make production easy. I know cars that came without radios, power seats have wiring for them, so I would speculate that also the wiring for central locking also is there.

My car didn't come equiped with a rear wiper or the ten speaker option. But low and behold, the harness and connectors were laying there waiting. Plus, my passengers seat is not electric, but the plug is under the carpet.

For those of us with early cars and manual locks: is $125 a good price for a central lock kit with keyless entry? I think I could probably get all the parts for about $80, but Autoloc makes a complete stand-alone kit.
Also, where would I run for power?
I'm seriously thinking about it, as my driver's side lock barrel doesn't work (the door locks, but only when closed, and the key won't turn the barrel).

Joe and Danno,
My 87 also doesn't have the switch on the console. Didn't know anything about any "control box" on the steering column.
Bottomline, to add a factory central lock system would you just need to buy the switch and this control box then "plug and play"? Or would something else be required (A fuse, obviously
). But anything else?

That's my question. I don't know what other parts would be required. I guess i'm going to have to get my hands dirty this weekend & pull off a door panel & see if the actuator
or whatever is installed. If that is the case then I would figure that all we need is the control module & switch.
