Question Removing brake pads on 1988 Turbo S... How?

Hey Everyone,

I took the front right wheel off the car this morning and it looks like the brake pads are rubbing the rotor. My problem is, I can't seem to figure out how to remove the brake pads so I can inspect them and the rotor. It looks like it should be easy once I know how... Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi John

Just take a BIG screw driver (or lever) to push back the pads one by one.
Put some absorbing rags around the filling cap of the fluid container to absorb the surplus liquid that will come out.

I do not know how the caloper bolts are secured, you might require new strips for this.

Good luck.

Wink

First you need to release the big spring holding them in.. Use a pair of channel locks, (angled pliers) squeeze in the middle of the "8" and pop the spring outwards..it will swing down out of the way allowing you to grab a pad and pull it out.

We are talking about the Mo30 "S" brakes, right? Piece of cake..

Thumbs up

Thanks Dan, thats exactly what I was talking about. For some reason, I couldn't figure out how to get that spring to pop out. The pads themselves gave me one hell of a time; I got the inner one of first and ended up having to take the entire caliper off to get the other one loose. The pads are stuck (glued?) to another piece of flat sheet metal with two large aluminum (I think) prongs sticking out on one side... am I supposed to put the new pads on this piece of metal?

Thanks again for the help.
