Post moonroof jammed open!

hey guys, my moonroof jammed today completely randomly. for some reason the passenger side of the moonroof won't open again, and the driver's side won't come all the way closed, but it still does move up and down. I unclipped it and tried to get it out completely but i think the passenger side is stuck. Any suggestions on how to safely get this working again?

You have a broken gear set. I will assume your car is a second generation model? The plastic gear set that drives the sunroof cams will have sheared off teeth. You will need to replace the drive gears and re-time the roof actuators with the drive cable.

Search manual sunroof conversion. If you fix the power roof, it WILL break again, and will probably drive you crazy.

I've done the late to early conversion. If you have any questions you can ask me, but there are other websites with information as well.

Do you hear any noises when you press the sunroof button to the shut position?

Default roof parts

I have some early power roof parts if you want to put it back as is .

You will need to pull loose the headliner between roof and hatch. You could have a broken cam lever. on the early power roofs the cable it is permanently bound to the lift latch with a small lug that can shear off.

Or sometimes the plastic gearbox (with metal gears inside gets brittle and cracks and can allow the cable to shift / let the metal tube come free and or potentially strip the spiral teeth off the cable.
