Unhappy TT's turbos

Has n/e body installed one of turbo tim's stage one turbos. How do they compare in size/effiency to the popular K27. I was told that even with the stock air box full boost is "realized" @ 2500rpm.?!?

I have used a number of turbos inc. the K-27 w/-8 hot house. The K-27 is very old technology. The new ball bearing turbos are far more advanced. However, in fitting the right turbo, so much has to be taken into consideration. Matching turbos to motors is an almost an art form. When my 3.1 L was built, it developed 1 bar boost at a little over 2000 RPM on the dyno. I can replicate this in higher gears, but not in the low gears. On the dyno, the motor is loaded. On the road it revs too easily in 1st & 2nd, to acheive high boost until approx. 4000 RPM, or there abouts. If you opt for the K-27, be careful, as many of these are made from two separate turbos and the married together. I sold my K-27 to someone and it blew apart on them. Mine was a hybrid that was not assembled properly, or something. Don't really know. I offered a full refund, because I felt terrible. One thing that I remember about the K-27. I could acheive 20 lbs. of boost, registered on my HKS gauge wwith peak hold. An engine builder told me he doubted that the K-27 could hold that boost above 5000 RPM. With the boost gauge in the glove box, it's hard for me to see. Wanting to prove to him that it could, my Brother rode with me to watch. Pissed me off, the darn thing began to drop like a rock at 5000 RPM, to well below 1 bar at 6500. Probably a good thing though with 20 lbs. on pump gas. With the Mass air flow, special AutoThority chips, K-27, higher flow FPR, I was told by some that I should be making 360 H/P or so at 20 lbs boost. What I was feeling under acceleration was torque. The actual H/P was probably in the 330, or so range. I cannot advise you on Tim's turbo. Apparently, it works very well for his application. Pobably the best advice I can give you is to determine the amount of mods, you want to make and see if a reputable engine builder can advise you, taking all of your mods into consideration. Hope this is of some value to you.

Our level 1 turbo is a true Garrett. It is just as big as a k-27 but alot more efficient and a much newer and better design. If anyone is looking for a turbo upgrade,I gaurantee that our Garrett for $999 is unbeatable. It is a complete bolt-on too;^) Most shops are selling cheater k-26s or plain jane k-27s for this price!
