Post Gasket Question

In case you didn't see my response in an earlier thread...

Do I need to use a special gasket sealant when reinstalling my intake manifold. (44 Garage says to use light grease to hold them in place. Is this good/bad/ugly???

I have been told by my mechanic (944T race car specialist, btw)that he uses ultra gray silicon (high temp) to adhere the IM gasket to the block. Use only a VERY thin amount to really just make sure the gaskets stay aligned when dropping the IM into place. Keeping the gaskets aligned when installing the IM is tough without any adhesive to keep the gaskets from sliding.

the mech aid to not put any silicon on the "top" of the gasket to adhere to the IM. I confirmed that this advice matched with what it looked like when I recently took the IM off my car (my mech had installed it about 12 mo ago). The gasket peeled off the block very easily without tearing.

You can find ultra gray silicon at most automotive shops. I bought my new gaskets from Jason at Paragon for <$1 each.

good luck
