Question Cheese Head Bolt Question

I am replacing the clutch and rear main seal. While removing the bolts from the flywheel three of them stripped, even with two sets of hands!!!!

My question is, do I need to get replacement bolts from Porsche or can I substitue a grade 8 hex head of the same size??

Also what type of lube should I use on the throw out bearing fork?

BTW-130K miles on the original clutch.

I would use the Porsche bolts, They are standard Kamax German hardware, but I would still us it.

Good old axle greese is what I've used, probable something better is out there, but I don't think the fancy stuff will do much better.

BTW did you inspect the shaft and the bearings in the fork?

second that bolt advise, go OEM.

For grease I have used ani-seize compund and Molycote (graphite high temp) grease.

I always added some to the bearing and slightly "wetted" the tips of the diaphragm as well.

Take Care

Thanks, I'll make the trip to the local Porsche dealer to pickup bolts.

I have inspected the bearing and shaft. Both of the bearing are free. The shaft has some marks from one of the bearings. I will clean it up with emory paper before re-installing it.

I checked the bearings on mine and they disintegrated. They are a cheap replacement however, 10 bucks or so, hence I would replace them if I were you. My fork shaft was also marked BTW.

As for grease....I always use a moly based grease.......wheel bearing grease it too thin, and will turn to liquid when heated. You can use it, just use it sparingly.
