Post Bad Tensioner?

Could my cam belt auto spring tensioner be bad? I can't get it to release far enough to
allow me to install the new timing belt.

This is my first time changing the belts, and can't figure why the belt should have to be literally pried into place. ANy tricks to gaining enough slack?

Belt is correct - rollers, etc are correct....

Make sure you loosen both the nut and the bolt. One locks the pivot and the other is the pivot armature. If you use a screw driver to lever the tensioner fulling open, compressing the spring completely, then tighten it down, you should be able to just slide the belt on with your fingers. Loosen to regain tension on the belt. I can probably scna a picture showing them if that would help.
