Post Vacuum Leaks

Hi,

I am looking for vacuum leaks on my '88 S. With the engine running I have been checking various pipe unions and have got the following questions:

1. If the vacuum pipe is pulled from the fuel damper the idle doesn't change. Is the susequent rise in the fuel pressure compensating for the extra air, or is this a problem?

2. Removing the dipstick doesn't affect the idle, whereas removing the oil filler cap does. I'm wondering whether I have a leak where the dipstick tube enters the crankcase.

All help appreciated.

Cheers,
