This morning I tried to open my driver door (84 944) and the lever went pop and slack. now I can only open the door from the inside. The lever moves freely and does not disengage the release mechanism. I have 2 questions, does anyone know what part I probable need so I can aquire it before I take the door apart and how do I take the door apart and put it back together without damageing it? Thanks

You need a new door handle. Mine did the same thing on the passenger side and when I pulled the handle off I saw that the little bit that actuates the latch had snapped. You can pull the door handle without much fuss(or having to remove the interior door panel, and if you are good can put it back together without taking the interior door panel off. However, my guess is you must take off the interior door panel and you will cuss a lot putting things back together. I sure did.

Get a Haynes manual, which was sufficient for this task and order the door handle and the little seals.

there is a company that sells that piece and for the life of me i cant remember the name. i have baught one from them in the past for about $10 - 15. look in excellence for parts sellers, call till you find them ( i know it doesnt sound too encouraging but thats what i had to do). good luck hell maybe porsche sells them
