Default Cruise control engages slowly and then the gas pedal pops back out

Hey guys,

I read multiple threads on the cruise control problems and no one had described this happening. It is an 86 951.

I had some work done to the car. This is what my mechanic did;

Replace block vent hose to intake banjo and Pull front cam gear assembly and reseal, inspect timing belt/rollers. It was leaking real bad up front as we would see fresh oil under the front cam gear housing after driving. It is no longer leaking from that area. The intake housing was pretty shot so we replaced.

Before I took it to my mechanic the cruise control engaged quickly and held it's speed well. Now when pushing the stalk it slowly catches and you feel the pedal move away from your foot and then it pops back out quickly. Is it possible that something came disconnected during the work. He mentioned one line was not reconnected because he didn't think it did anything. He is the best 928 mechanic in Texas in most owners opinion but is having to learn some on my 951. I trust him.

We are driving to Oklahoma early in the morning from Dallas. Will it be an inconvenience or a could it be a symptom of other things.

Thank you!

I have the same issue.

I rebuilt the servo -nothing improved
I cleaned contacts- nothing improved
I took the cruse computer apart and checked for bad solder joints and did a few resolder joints at the connector-nothing improved

I think the problem is the computer.
I could get a different computer or I might just get mine rebuilt:

In your case, it may just be a coincidence the cruise does not work properly after some mechanical work.

Make sure the cable is not bound up.

I pulled my 951 cruise control components -- if you find you need
something -- let me know. I don't remember if I was very gentle on the cable tho :-(

cost you a beer and shipping :-)

Unrelated:

How old is your short fuel line from the rail to the dampener.
They go bad and are a cause of engine fires.

When we pulled ours off our race car -- the outside looked fine
but the inside bend was nearly cracked through and through.

You may be right. I just drove it and it worked perfectly. So in my case if it is not working it might just need to be rebooted.

mike,
That line is new. I have read enough entire fire threads to make sure all fuel lines are new.
Thank you

If it persists you need to pull the computer and resolder every single joint. It's a tedious job as there are a few hundred spots, but it's well worth the effort. It fixed all of my cruise issues. Even just re flowing them should be enough. Cold joints are not always obvious and testing the connections takes just as long as re flowing them.

I see something odd about the engine compartment.
Way too many shiny-new looking parts in there!
Looks good.
