Post Autothority rant

The PO put in a autothority stage 2 chip with jetted banjo bolt.
I read on here and everywhere that setup makes 15psi boost, I thought to myself OK that's safe.

I just got my boost gauge hooked up.
15psi in 2nd
17-18psi in 3rd
and didn't have a big enough stretch of road to see what 4th is making, probably 20psi+...

Don't do ANY mods to your car without a boost gauge!!

Does it have a removable jet ? If so, take it out and see what number is on the jet . e.g. 165, 175, 190, etc. In the early to mid 90's the banjo bolt used to come with a removable jet( weber air correction jet) You could effectively change the boost level by replacing the jet with one with a different size orifice. Smaller the orifice, higher the boost level.

The PO only had the car from 2000 to 2001, so thats not a possibility..

I'm just gonna pull it out after I do a HP run w/ the correct weight on the g-tech.

I'm gonna go for either a greddy profec B (equal boost in all gears) OR a cheapo mechanical. All depends on the $$ situation.

I was just not happy at all to see the car boosting to 20psi+ in 4th gear!!!

adrial, it is funny to see you grousing about Autothority and the banjo bolt, which is apparently a bit more sophisticated now.

I got one of their kits back in '91 and all they gave me was a couple drill bits. "if you are boosting above 1 bar drill out the banjo bolt. Keep drilling it bigger until you don't boost over 1 bar." LOL!

Adrial, the reason for the high boost is the jet size(145)17-18 psi of boost is just about right for 145 jet. You need jet size around 180-190 to get 15 psi.( APE chips used to come with 190 jet in the banjo bolt to give around .95 Bar of boost) Looks like the PO replaced the jet.
The Jets( Weber Air correction jet) come in increments of 5. 145,150,155 etc.
You can buy them from PMO. (tel)310-393-543
(fax)310-394-6313 Santa Monica CA.
They advertise in Panorama. Around $2.50/per jet.
Please e mail me if I can help.

Thanks.

APE used to supply a drill bit in cases where the boost went above 1 bar.The jet size maxed at 190
and if one got more than 1 bar with it, you would drill it larger. Not all factory stock cars got the same boost with 190 jet.

Hope it helps.
