Post Oh no! Water in my motor!

I almost forgot this (and i didn't put this in my regular progress and updates thread), but i figured this deserves its own thread. Anyways, when I powerwashed out my motor, I had the intake manifold off, and I had shop rags in the intake ports, but some water got past one of the rags, and ended up going into the cylinder that had its valve open. So, anyways, when I was cranking the motor around by hand to get my rodbolts off today, I saw a slug of water come out of the headerpipe all over my leg...so that must have been where that water went. What should I do about this? Is this a problem? Will I need to add some ATF or oil into the top side of that cylinder to get it to compress again when I am all done with my project? Yikes...I kinda messed up. Let me know guys.

There may be something better, but I'd start by shooting a bit of penetrating oil or something into that cyl.

Get a big hypodermic needle (I know what you're thinking!!) put a length of vac hose on the end and stick it down in the spark plug hole & suck any water out. I'd shine a flash light in there, if you can see the tops of the pistons, I think you'll be fine. Like Dave said, squirt some oil down there & turn the motor over a few times to prevent rust. Have you been taking your proper <img src="graemlins/drink.gif" border="0" alt="[cherrsagai]" /> breaks during this?

Tom, I have a never used grease gun that would be perfect for such a task, so I will give that a try. Is there alcohol or brake parts cleaner or anything like that I could spray into the motor to try to dry it out? I don't like the idea of a pool of water sitting in my cylinder, all though I think most of it came out. TIA,

Not sure about alcohol or brake cleaner.....maybe blow compressed air in the plug hole to dry it out some.

Roll it over a few more times. Spray some (3 second shot) brakekleen in there (helps evap the water), then put a capful of oil in there. You still have the pan off? Then lube up the bore for that cylinder from underneath. Turn it over and finish your work. It will be fine.

Hey Ribs, if your still in doubt, when your work, is completed, leave out the spark plugs, during initial cranking of the engine..
