Cool What is the widest wheel/tire combo for '86 944?

I'm thinking of purchasing a set of ATE Spa 17" 2- piece wheels for my car. Can I fit 8" wheels w/ 235/45/17's on the front and 10" wheels w/ 285/40/17's on the rear? Or should I just go for 8" all around? Anyone know what the weight difference is between these aftermarkets and a pair of '86 951 phonedials?
Yes, I'm still contemplating wheels&tires and no, I can't seem to make up my mind. <img src="graemlins/yltype.gif" border="0" alt="[typing]" />

Well, you can go up to 17x10.5/11.5" if you wanted. Quick tip: Do not use the the Wheels table in the 944FAQ. It's full of errors and will confuse the h*ll out of you.

Basically the '85.5-86 944NA and the '86 951 share the same 23.3mm-offset wheels as the earlier cars. HOWEVER, these cars didn't come with the stock 21mm rear spacer that the earlier cars had, thus wheel-offsets will be a little different than the earlier cars when you want to go to <a href="http://members.rennlist.com/951_racerx/WheelsFAQ-SizusMaximus.html" target="_blank">"Sizus Maximus"</a>. Not to mention they look a little funny in stock trim with the rear wheels inset about 1" more than the front.

Here's some recent threads (hopefully will save people from posting the same info over and over again):
