How do you know when it's time to rebuild the front struts. Is there a test or tell-tale symptoms? I figure it's time. The '84 has the original yellow struts with blue advesive tape. I think they're KONI non-adjustable now with 100k.

At 100,000 miles, new shocks and struts would probably be a good investment.
At 65,000 miles I noticed that mine needed replacing because of a feeling of loss of control when I hit a bump while in a long sweeping curve, it made the car feel really unstable and it gave me a good scare. I slapped on some used Koni adjustables on the rear and the car felt completely different. (The fronts are going to be done soon.) I now rotuinly take the same curve at 20 mph faster than before with feeling of loss of control.
I have been told that the only way to really tell the condition of your shocks/struts is to have them put on a shock dyno, but if you are going to go through all the trouble to take them off, you might as well replace them.

Michael,
My car has 71K on the original shocks. On a sweeping down hill right transition road I use, I experience an odd sort of "sideways jump" to the car at the joint between the concrete ramp and the asphalt. Obviously it is a seam in the pavement and not a good one, but is this "jump" my shocks? It momentarily feels a little squirley in the butt if you know what I mean. But it's gone immediately and the car is otherwise fine. I don't autocross and frankly, still have crappy discount store tires that the PO put on. But I do notice a little squat in the butt if I get on it hard through first and second gear. Whatcha think?

My car came with the M030 option.
At 100.000 miles I saw no trouble on the rear shocks.
BUT on the front studs.Refer to that thread :

My original shocks would “bounce” after I hit a bump – this made the rear end feel light and floaty until it settled down.
After replacing the rear shocks, the car occasionally do a little “skip” when I hit a rough spot, like a bad expansion joint, but the car never feels unsettled and the rear does not feel light or floaty – it still feels planted.
