Post 944S Timing Belt Install Question

One of these days this thing is gonna go back together if it kills me!!!

Need some advice on getting the new timing belt on. When the old one came off if was pretty tight - even with the pressure off the automatic spring tensioner. I am trying to get the belt on, but it is so tight, that I come up short every way I turn.

I removed the tensioner to route the belt. Reinstalled the tensioner, but the belt seems to be too darn tight to get into place.

I don't want to pry it in place without asking someone who has tackled this before.

Any ideas guys? It's an 87 944S - with auto tensioner.
