Cool 951 transmission

I have an 86 951 with Huntley 2 turbo, MAF #4,ARC2 with recently developed transmission problems. Mechanic says need used or rebuilt one; I wondered if a 968 6 speed LSD transaxle could be used, and if its tuff/robust enough? any thoughts? thanx

here's some info if anyone wants to see the gear ratios:

1991-1995
NA, Cab, CS used G44/00
Turbo S used the G44/01

1st: 3.182
2nd: 2.000
3rd: 1.435
4th: 1.111
5th: 0.912
6th: 0.778
Rev: 3.455

axel ratio: 3.778
...the 968 uses "Torsen" LSD

1986 944 Turbo, gearbox: 016R

1st: 3.5000
2nd: 2.0588
3rd: 1.4000
4th: 1.0345
5th: 0.8286
rev: 3.5000

axel ratio: 3.3750

let us know if it works!

I have heard that 968 G-box, has a totally different speedo drive system compared with the 951. Dont know if this is true though.
Maybe someone could verify this for us

The 968 trans doesn't have a speedo sender. The 968 gets its signal for the speedo from the ABS unit (after all, it's counting revolutions for all four wheels all the time).
Someone has a solution to allow speedometer usage with the 968 trans in a 944 car, involving using the ABS brain. Anyone?

UPDATE
I was looking through the 968 and 944 wiring diagrams, and the 968 gets its speedo signal from the DME box, but the main ABS wiring harness is a different number for the 968 vs the 944. I seem to recall that Gary Stone's solution was rumored to cost a couple hundred bucks, likely true if you have to mimic something found in the DME.

I've got a gearing chart on my website at http://members.rennlist.org/951_racerx . It lists all the gear ratios and the resultant speed in each gear.

Supposedly Gary Stone, the guy that had a 968 turboed by Kelly Moss racing has a solution. His car was featured in Excellence a couple of years ago. Also some guy mentioned in one of the other threads has a solution as well. Good luck - danno
