Angry Squealing clutch???

About a month ago I had the clutch replaced in my car. New Disk (spring center, not rubber) Pressure plate, pilot bearing TO Bearing, release fork shaft and the rear seal.

Ever since I got the car back, there is a squeal when you first take off from a dead stop. Its really noticeable if you have to take off up hill. If you set the e-brake and start letting the clutch out, the squeal will go until you put the clutch back in. (this was done only once for test purposes.
Obviously it's related to the rear wheels being locked or not moving. The best I could describe it, is the way brakes sound when they're wet and dry themselves at braking. Also, there is a smell like the kind you have when welding...that really hot metallic smell...
Ideas on what this could be? the clutch doesn't slip in any gear and feels tight otherwise...

Sounds like it could be your clutch belt. For more info on this often overlooked but essential maintenance item go here: www.kalecoauto.com

BTW, you might want to spend a few bucks more and get the 951S spec clutch belt. Thaddeus informed me that they're good for an extra 10hp at the wheels.

Well it has a new Pilot Bearing and TO Bearing in there. This is more of a metal on metal screech than a whistle. Could a new pilot bearing do this?

re-0read your post...

hmmm.. does'nt sound as if it's been fitted properly.

When youi replace the clutch you usually get a full kit os parts and change everything.

Bottom line is your haveing problems since it's been fitted I'd take it back and get them to fix it.

is the release bearing, relasing properly ???
sould be why your getting a metal on metal sound (and that smell) sound like you are

Put a little bearing grease (a little) on the clutch fork where it hits the throw out bearing. Mine made a little noise right after I got done with my clutch job. I was so **** about having it clean that I forgot to apply a little lube.

Try that. At least it eliminates 1 item that can cause noise.

I know this is a little OT but did anyone actually look at the 'clutch belt' offered at KaleCo? Dig around the site and find plenty of mods to suit even the most fetishistic of owners. I must own up to smirking.

I have an early 85 with a new clutch - no squealing or hot smells. Someone screwed up somewhere and they should put it right - take no guff about it being normal, it isn't.
