Getting 944 out of storage. Advice?
Greetings all. My 1991 944 s2 cabriolet has been in storage for a couple of years. ( long, fairly uninteresting story involving death of a spouse...in case anyone was ready to crucify me for neglect) The battery has been maintained. The engine started occasionally and the vehicle moved back and forth within the confines of the indoor storage area.(25 feet or so)
Of course the oil and filter need changed. I am going to have the belts and rollers and the cam chain tensioner pads replaced. I know seals have a high disdain for lack of use, and I will have to deal with that as it comes. Anything else I should plan on?
Now the million dollar (or potentially several thousand dollar) question. Should I drive the car to the shop or have it towed? The tires are fine, no cracks or dry rot. My main concern is a belt or chain failure.
Advise away. While you are at it...anyone have any suggestions for a worthy 944 wrench in the Columbus Ohio area? I will post a separate topic as well but thought I'd throw that in.
Thanks in advance. I am looking forward to getting the car back on the road.

I would say it depends on how far you plan on driving it, what condition the belts were in when parked, how long they've been sitting and what sort of climate it was stored in.
Climate might not be an issue, I'm just thinking really hot or really cold vs moderate temperatures might have an effect over a long enough time.
Personally, I take chances with my car(s) all the time, but I don't mind fixing them.

If the engine has been started a few times I would not worry about it. I let my 83 sit for 12 years with 1 startup in that entire time. No long term issues at all. You mentioned new oil and filter, you should also make sure the fuel gets changed before you drive it. Did you ever see any oil deposits under the car? Might be a good idea to make sure the gear oil is at proper level.
