hey guys - was watching WRC and noticed that the Focus' seem to have a non-relflective covering on the dash (I am assuming that is what it is). Is this on the rallycars only?
More importantly, could this covering (if that is indeed what it is)be used on the 944/951 dashes? (particularly slightly blemished ones???)
anyone know what I'm talking about?

OK, here is what I'm going to do to my 944 ITS race car when I get the dash in after installing the cage.....
What you want to get is a flocking kit. I haven't actually used one, but I saw one used in HS about a million years ago. Basically, you cover the dash with an adhesive and pump this stuff onto the dash. It's like the little "mouse fur" inside a jewelry box.
It's certainly not for everyone - especially on a nice example of a road car. But, for my race car it will be perfect and also allow me to cover the cracks in the dash.
I've seen these kits available from Woodworker's Supply and a few other woodworking catalogs.

there isn't some selfadhesive suede of rubber-based product that could be bought in sheets and cut to fit? I was thinking that it could be trimmed nicely and look purposeful...
How would flocking conceal the cracks?

"mouse fur" eh? Neat stuff and if you use enough of it on your dash, it will indeed cover the cracks. Also saves you from having to kill numerous naughas to cover that same area of dash. How about good ol' fashioned flat-black spray paint?
