End Result
Well I ended up using a 3m eraser wheel, 3m adhesive remover until we ran out. The we went to Lowe's and got some goo gone and new scrapers. Goo-gone worked much better than 3m adhesive remover.
The picture is pre polish and wax. After that they look fantastic.
Thank you for all the help. I haven't decided yet if I am going to put new ones on.
Next project is to paint the stone guard area.

How much are OE from a dealership?
I see that paragon has a cut set for $95 for all 6 pieces, 944 Online is $175.
Anyone use sets from any of the aftermarket sources, and are they the same material as the factory pieces, or different? I know the 3M stone guard material is somewhat thinner than the factory rock guard material.

Yes I still have them. If anyone else needs a set let me know and I'll cut them together.
Clear, matte black, stock or turbo style. I did mine with the clear on the wheel wells and black behind the doors.

If I could go back, I'd buy some rock guards, or at the very least some 3 mil vinyl to go over them.

I wanted to put out there for others doing this as well:
The rock guards provide substantial UV protection and wear resistance to the paint in question. When I took my rock guards off (before I repainted the car), the area where the rock guards had been looked like pristine paint, and the area around them was slightly worn and dulled, almost faded. It was almost as noticeable as having cracked yellowed rock guards. FWIW.

I wanted to put out there for others doing this as well:
The rock guards provide substantial UV protection and wear resistance to the paint in question. When I took my rock guards off (before I repainted the car), the area where the rock guards had been looked like pristine paint, and the area around them was slightly worn and dulled, almost faded. It was almost as noticeable as having cracked yellowed rock guards. FWIW.

. We have the new ones. They are part of the planned work for this weekend. I will post the pics if it looks good.

I removed mine a few years ago without any problems. I did install some clip on mud guards and made my own black stone guard for the front of the rear fender though. You can see some photos at:
