What do you think of this lift for $1400?

A friend owns a service station and when I asked him about lifts he thought it best that I buy one that would be certified for use in a business like his. He insisted that these need not be expensive but are safe.

A Single Post Lift would scare the you know what out of me. Garage floor should be at least 6 inches thick with steel rebar where the bolt holes are drilled to mount the upright post base.

An "ALI" Certification is what you want on your lift.
Your local auto parts store sells lifts and should have a certified installation crew on call. I typically charge $600 for a two-post 4hr. installation with two men.
If you can turn wrenches on a p-car you can install a lift. Its all in keeping it level.
4" deep/3500 psi minimum. Some pour 2'x2' footers.
12' minimum ceiling height is the norm.
Scissor lifts are great for their mobility, especially in a shop with a lot of immobile cars. Other than that they're good for bodywork, brakes and tires, and NOT so good for exhausts, trannies, engines, floor pans or anything requiring more height...Same holds true with the stationary pad lifts. These are an instant sale to the old bodyman with an aching back.

In-ground. Challenger makes a really cool one called an aqua vantage. Uses air and water instead of hydraulic fluid. Inground really clean up the look of a shop. Their main flaw was difficult to work on and the epa bot appreciating oil leaking into the ground.
