Default 928 wheels fit 944?

Hi, great site you guys have here. I would like to ask if wheels from a 1984 928 would bolt on and work well on my 1987 944s. Both have 225 50 16 tires on them. Thanks, Mike.

I have used both the phonedial style and flat dish 928 wheels on our '87.

IIRC the 84 928 wheels would be early offset? so i don't think they will fit right. You need 52mm offset wheels and those would be 23mm. 225/50/16's do fit with no problems though, thats what i run on my S on a set of D-90's.

928s do not have the early and late offset. However the front wheel offsets are different, the 928 is 65mm offset while the 944 is 52 or 55mm. They should fit and function but the change in track might be noticeable. The 944 Turbo S uses a different front wheel offset but also has a different hub.

I have run the 65mm offset front wheel with a 225/50-16 on a 944S2 and 968 with no rubbing.

It's hard to tell, but those look like 944 offset fronts (slight dish) and not 928 offset front (slight dome.)

iirc your 944S has late 52mm offset, the 84 928 uses 65mm, so should fit with maybe a small 1/2" spacer to bring the wheel out to the fender.
