Unhappy Things That Go Down but Won't Go Up

No, not that you perverts.

This afternoon my passenger side window of my '86 944 Turbo decided to go on strike and will not go up.

Previously it was working fine, even this morning. When I push the button (passenger side or driver side doesn't matter) the window WILL go down but it won't go back up.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

One of the switches could be causing the problem. If you are carefull the switches can be taken apart and cleaned.

I had that problem and was able to temporarily solve it by cleaning the switches and swapping the two passenger side switches around (IIRC, the power to the passenger side is routed through the passenger switch on the driver's side so if that switch is bad it can cut power to both. Or not, but that is what I did anyway). Ultimately, I ended up just replacing all three switches.

BB.

Contact cleaner. Take out the switch and hose it down with the non-residue cleaner, working it back and forth until it dries. Then give it a squirt with the residue/lube type. Or skip part one. Do not need to dismantle them!

Contact cleaner didnt solve the problem for long on mine. I found it better to dismantle, take some fine grit sandpaper to the contacts . Then add a smear of conductive grease. The headlight switch is a bit tricky to do but the window switches are pretty simple to deal with.

For a temporary solution, you can reverse the leads to the window motor and hit the down button and that will at least put the window up....

I took mine apart and cleaned it, it was easy to do.
