I see your point...

So far I found a 85 parts car, says it runs with a jump but well ya know
how Craigs list is...

Working on another 16 valve head and one from overseas.

There is also a chance to get mine repaired.... The main reason the replacement
head I bought for the car won't work is the way it was welded back together.
He welded the broken part to the cam bucket bores, thats fine untill things cool
off, pull back destroying the nice round bore.. That and well, just poor
workmanship..

That suckkkkks, I'm having a bit of fun with my head at the moment as well. My head was rebuilt in 2003 after a T-belt failure by a shop in denver. They managed to crack the head while prying on the intake cam, instead of removing the head and having it welded up, they threw some JB weld at it and hoped for the best. It leaks oil through the crack and i think it has traveled since then. Thankfully they did replace the Chain tensioner and they modified the head to use 2 bolts to hold it in instead of 1. So it still works, but cracks... Cracks are scary.

I;ve built a bunch of engines over the years, machine shops seem to
fall into one of 4 category's.

Those that are truly clueless or just old school (most)

Those that can do the work but completely rape you on the price (like double the quote)

Those that can do the job----- the 2nd time

Those that are honest, do a good job, do the job when they SAY they will get the job done and charge what they say they will charge. (in my area 1 out of 20)

Last year I finally found an honest one, I was so excited! I've been working with a 2nd time guy for some time. He forced me to go buy all the measuring tools to be sure he's doing his job right.

And I know every other shop in town as well, they fall into one of the 1st 2 category's...
