Here is an example of what Porsche did in 1980 with a 4 cylinder entry at
Le Mans.
This is the works entry 924 GT-R driven by Derek Bell and Al Holbert.
They qualified 35th, but ran as high AS 5th Overall.
They burned a piston on the famous straight but managed 13th overall.
You see if it were not for the rule makers Porsche could win Le Mans OUTRIGHT with there non-prototype entries and absolutely hammer the Corvettes as they did with a little 4 banger in 1980.
They made 50 924 GT-Rs and Derek Bell still owns one back in the UK, he says
" It is still an absolute rocket to drive"
This comes from a man who topped 260 MPH down the long straight at Le Mans in 917s in the 70s..

is the one with the turbo graphic on the right hand fender/guard a GTS or GTR ? I have seen an original one and it was an absolutely gorgeous car but as one of only a handful bought down here it was ridiculously expensive(and that's compared to the ridiculous prices we pay for Aussie delivered 952's here lol)
