Nice trade for an E30..
I trust the 951 is a much more better driver's car?
If the cold affects the noise then, changing to a new set of the correct heat range plugs would certainly eliminate that element from the equation...
From the summitracing.com page: ( for newbies like me who come here to learn stuff)
"Heat range is the speed at which a spark plug can transfer heat from the firing tip to the cylinder head water jacket and into the cooling system. Choosing the right heat range is crucial for high performance engines. If the heat range is too cold, the spark plug will be unable to properly self-clean by burning off carbon deposits..."
Best wishes on the solution and let us know the progress!
Cheers.. Mikey

well im using 10w50 pennzoil but its been doing it before that. i changed the plugs and wires to what it should have and it still makes that same sound but the car does run 100x times better now

As you've noted, the correct plugs/wires now providing 100 times better running, means that the sound is definitely pinging/detonation; fuel metering; carbon arcing.
I'll wager you a free lunch.. (KFC or ARBIES)
Let us know the official diagnosis, we are all on your side.
