Default Clutch Hydraulics Nightmare

Hey, So I was getting really bad gear selection and clutch engagement so I figured I would put new fluid in the trans and bleed new fluid into the clutch system.

Well all that happened was now I have about half of the pedal that I used to...

I have disassembled and inspected the master cylinder and slave cylinder as well as the lines and pedal assembly and have found nothing wrong, no leaks, no nothing. I have bled the system with the back of the car up, the front of the car up and with the car level. Nothing... I just keep getting the same pedal.

Any ideas?

Just made a bleeder like this one, worked really well.

Unfortunately didn't fix problem. I am buying a slave and master tomorrow.

FWIW bleeding the clutch system can be a nightmare. One that I have to tackle again soon. It sometimes seems like you have to hold your mouth a certain way to get it done properly. A vacuum system worked best for me, and will be buying a motive system before I try it again. Everyone I have talked to that has used one swears by them. And yes, replace both master and slave at same time, learned that lesson the hard way myself.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Do yourself a favor and buy the tube between the two also.

Get the hose from the resevoir to master cylinder as well as the hose from master to slave cylinder.

When you bled the clutch hydraulic lines, did you make sure the brake fluid reservoir was filled to the top to ensure the feeder hose the clutch MC did not put air into the hose to the clutch MC?

Default clutch bleed

I have always had an issue with bleeding the clutch. There is a gate in the reservoir to portion off the clutch reservoir from the brake section of the reservoir. The fluid drains from the brake section to this clutch section (front left corner) very slowly. It is really easy to suck air even with motive (I have done it). You either need to bleed very very slowly or you need to pull the clutch master line (blue hose) and feed direct. This works fantastic. Also save yourself some $ and just rebuild the slave and master (assuming your bores are not rusty) and replace the metal/rubber slave line and master line for sure.

Sometimes I have to break the connection between the rubber hose and the hard line - because it's at the top of the system - and let air out there.

Sometimes it also helps if you pump the clutch (actuate the master) with the motive attached.

If the above suggestions do not solve the problem,

With bad gear selection and clutch engagement-----------

Maybe the problem is in the bell housing-clutch fork or....?

New master cylinder and lines get here in a few hours. I looked inside the clutch housing and everything looked fine.

I was able to get a lot better pedal response with a ton of bleeding and adjustments, still not enough to release the spring though.

Hi,

first I have a dedicated video for you:

second have a look, if the firewall is still okay at the place where the master cylinder is mounted. In Germany we had some 944 with a broken firewall. Thus you press the pedal, but you push the cylinder in the firewall instead of pressing the liquid in the system.

Regards,

Jürgen

Used a Motive Pressure Bleeder and got about 15mm of travel at the slave, need to adjust the adjustment rod because I have it way to far out right now. Got the last few bits of air out, got everything put back together and guess what...

IT'S A NO START NOW, YEEEEEAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like I have another fun project for tomorrow morning.... I cant think of anything I would have disconnected during this work that would produce a no start condition...
