Good 944 race action from Summit Point last weekend
I thought I'd share some video from last weekend.
PCA race at Summit Point. I quality P3 out of 15 cars; spin in the first lap; then battle from the back to P6.
Enjoy:

Nice race video Van. You always do good work, and I enjoy in the in-flight comments.
BTW, I didn't get sloppy with that blue car. He committed to passing me late, and paused at the apex. He hung me out to dry, I had to lift to avoid running into him and that took all of my momentum away from me, handling you the easy pass. The blue car driver is a friend of mine and later he said he should have just waited and passed me after the corner, but there you go ...

Hey Van, fun to watch. You certainly didn't do yourself any favors by spinning out of P3. At least you got to practice your overtaking moves. You were killing through 9 and coming out of 10.
One of these days I have to get my car past the final hurdles so I can race you guys. That looks like too much fun.

Well done once again, sir! I love the closed captioning... keeps the audience riveted and entertained. I had white knuckles and chuckles. Love the car as well. Keep these coming.
(man I've got to get mine out on a track soon...)
Gotta love this too. Good stuff, guys.

Nice video Van. Also looks like you had better weather than we did last year. Recognized a few of the car from last year too. Couldn't make this year due to a conflict but I'm looking forward to next year. Fun track.

You bought back some of the best memories of my life, good old Summit Point!
I used to race ITC in a Sicrocco (1:33.8)and ITB in a Geo Storm (1:32.2). You really really make me want to bring the 944 out!
Who are you racing with, what class and were can I see a rule book!!!

Hi Steve, that was a PCA race - you can find out info about the racing series here: http://www.pca.org/Activities/ClubRacing.aspx
They are pretty strict about enforcing the "13/13 rule" - anyone responsible for car-to-car contact is placed on probation for 13 months, and if a second incident happens while a driver is on probation, that driver is suspended for 13 months. I know some people don't like the rule, however, I believe it promotes very clean racing. And because of this rule, I've managed to bring my 944 home dent-free after close racing.
I run in SP2 class, which follows the same rules at the 944 Cup series: http://44cup.com/
The PCA rule book is here: http://www.pca.org/portals/cr/2012%2...ule%20Book.pdf
The short summary is: a normally aspirated 944 that weighs at least 2600 lbs with driver; any DOT track tire.
We always welcome new competitors!

What if the contact is accidental? For example, if you had a wheel fall off and your car veered off to the side and hit someone. You can't really avoid that. I can understand being suspended for purposefully hitting someone, but accidental contact shouldn't count.

The rules are very close to SCCA's Improved Touring rules, I always liked this
format to help keep the costs down...
Just to think out loud, a light weight 944s sure does look good for super cup...
I've always been a sucker for a light car..
In any event, thanks for the links and great video!
