I think I have one of the books this stuff comes out of, that I still need to read, 'Porsche 928, 924, 944 and 968 - The Front-Engined Sports Cars' by Marc Cranswick.

From its Preface, if you drew a line in the sand at the end of the production era for all these transaxle models including the 928, they represented half of all cars produced by Porsche at that time. "The overshadowed half... but half nonetheless."

The Porsche 924 Carrera GT was the most powerful production 2L car in 1981 at 210bhp

A 924 vin 9246100162 was imported to Australia for the 1976 Melbourne Motor Show. Built to group 4 specification for the 1979 Repco Round Australia rally by Jurgen Barth and Roland Kussmaul using the knowledge gained in the East African Safari. The car won the under 2L class this being the first international victory for the 924 in motorsport.

Time to resuscitate these tricked out monsters of what has been achieved with the incredable transaxle chassis.

Love that intake manifold on the last pic. Looks like they took a stock turbo manifold cut it and removed the s curves seems like that would be an awesome idea on a NA car.

I don't think this is the article that mentions that... but I'm sure you'll enjoy it:

Nope that was the "holy intercooler" size, this is the "cathedral good grief intercooler" size. It also goes to show what the factory though about the 944:

The LeMan winning BF Goodrich 924GT car drove the entire race on ONE set of tires.....

Doc Bundy, one of the drivers of that car for the race sat and talked with a friend and I at the Daytona club race three years ago. He said they ran the entire race with one set of BFG tires and at the last pit stop they had one that looked a little ragged so changed the one.

We tried to convince him he needed to co drive the enduro with us. Was fun listening to the stories of "back in the day" racing.
