Default Steering rack snag

So, Im in the process of depowering the rack and I already hit a snag. The part that links the rack to the steering wheel seems to be stuck on. There is some rust on the mating surface and the bottom joint. I hit both of the spots with WD40 and tapped the sides plus down towards the rack with a rubber mallet yet that didnt solve the issue. Any suggestions on what to do now?

Hopefully Photobucket will work for me soon so I can give you guys a visual to go along with this question.

Why are you taking that part off? There's no need to remove that "intermediate shaft" to depower the rack. If you are removing it to replace it then it will only come off if you drop the complete rack.

I have the rack out of the car. Its looking like I need to pull that bit off so i can remove the top to the "turret" on the rack.

Sometimes they are difficult to remove from the splines. You can "gently" pry the gap where the bolt goes through with a screwdriver, that helps. You do have the bolt completely out?

I believe its completely out but 100% not sure as i type this. Im just soaking it then letting it sit and will try in a bit. Im now leaning towards just taking the PS system from the donor and saving this project for winter when I got nothing better to do.

once the rack is out it doesn't take long to depower it so if you get that piece off and can disassemble then your close to being done. Don't give up yet
