Default steering shaft question

I have a question if anybody can answer/ measure for me....

Does anybody know the diameter of the steering shaft? Not the one in the column but in the engine bay.

I believe it is 5/8" and the same as early VW shaft.

I need the diameter and length of the shaft. I have the coupler/linkage information already.

My car is in storage in Chicago and need to get it shipped. I cant find the steering shaft (I was in the process of a motor freshen up before I moved to Boise) so I was going to check out a couple local junk yards this weekend and see if a VW one would fit so I can get it installed next weekend.

This is for a manual steer 80 924 turbo.

Thanks in advance!

Have a good steering shaft from a 82 924 NA manual steering rack if you are looking to buy one.
