Default value of 1983 944

Hi Experts - I have an 83 944 that I am unfortunately going to need to sell. I have torn rotator cuffs in both shoulders and I just can't drive a car with manual steering anymore. I'll probably get a later model 944 after I sell the 83...Does anyone here have an idea of a fair selling price? Some info is below:

Metallic grey with tan interior
Leather sport seats with fuchs wheels
The interior is in decent shape with the usual cracks in dash but the seats are in very good condition. They just have a 1/2 inch opening where the piping gave out but otherwise they are in great shape.
the paint is decent with a great clear coat - always garage kept there are the usual door dings etc. but no dents. The front end and right quarter panel was resprayed by a professional so no stone chips.
I have owned the car since 2009 and have only put 4k miles on it. In 2009 I replaced the shift boot, water pump and timing belt. last week I had new rotors and pads insatlled on all 4 wheels and new wheel bearings on the front. also had the turbo motor mounts installed and an alignment done. the car drives SO much better now.

any ideas on a fair price to ask? I checked the classifieds and the prices vary significantly on the early models...
thanks!

Overall mileage will play a roll, too. Without knowing anything else, I'd guess $2,000-$4,000.

Out here that would probably be worth $4-5k, if you could find a buyer.... Lower mileage than mine, sounds like a nice car. BTW The '83 has been fetching 50% + more than comparable '84-'86 cars at the auctions.

it should move for just a bit north of $2 k.

you can also put it on a raft attached to a great white heading for Australia where it might fetch a bit more.

I've heard that before, but I don't know why. So, as a proud '83 owner, could someone fill me in. Is it lighter, or the no power steering?

Yes and yes. It is the lightest of all the 944's. And the manual steering is very desirable (for that true sports car feel). It just has a different feel too. Compared to my 86, it is so much more raw, which I like. You could offer me 20k for my 83 and I would have to think about parting with it. But that may be because I brought it back to life and have put a zillion hours into getting it there and keeping it there.

Without pictures and seeing it in person, it is hard to put a price on it. What about service history? Accident history? Number of owners? Outstanding issues?

The car has been serviced by Don Galbraith since the early 90s and was just there for all the above mentioned repairs. From what I can tell I am the third owner. No outstanding engine and power train issues - other issues: passenger side window switch is dead. that's my next project...both window switches on the drivers side are operational. the rear hatch leaks in the rain. not a huge leak but makes a puddle of about 6" in diameter. I garage mine so not a big issue for me. door dings are certainly there....

I bought the car with a dented right front fender and had it professionally fixed and front end resprayed - so no rock chips. I have a bunch of pics but I keep getting error messages when I try to upload them...

If I remember correctly, if you're not a member, I believe you won't be able to post the pics.

Well I listed my '83 for $3900 and haven't gotten any interest yet. I listed it a little high because people always offer less anyways. I don't know if that helps you any or not.

It does help thanks. Yeah it seems like there is very little interest in the N/A 944s at this point. After giving it some thought, the value is so low that it’s really not even worth trying to sell. Since I’ve put $4k into making it right I’d like someone to drive it instead of just parking it in a garage for 20 yrs to rot. I might just give it to a relative or friend because I really can’t enjoy it with the manual steering and trashed shoulders.

Convert it to power steering and drive it yourself.

put it up for 3500 and see what happens. without pictures to see everything its hrd to gauge value of a car

82-85.1 are more desirable because they're lighter and with the manual steering more driver focused than one's wth power steering...not to say that the .2's suck.

i'd be on it, but i don't like the 924 interior
