Default Help installing a euro rear bumper

I've purchased a rear euro bumper for my 951 from a fellow lister, had it freshly painted and trying to install it.

It's really tight, and I still have 1/2in space on each side of the car between the end of the bumper and the body.

The brackets where supplied with the bumper. The lister list it as a 944/951 bumper, but I discovered a 931 XXXX code on the back of it.

Is it suppose to fit tight?

Did anybody experienced that before, and how was it fixed? (hopefully without cutting or welding : )

thanks

It should fit a little better than that. The part # of a 944 Euro rear bumper is stamped on the inside lip 477.807.313 (see photo), i dont know of the 931 is the same but if it has a different part # I guess not. Are you using the correct Euro brackets (see photo)?

no and yes....

the bracket on the left side is exactly the same as yours on your picture. I just finished installing everything and the left side with this bracket is actually fine.

The problem is on the right side, I have a big gap, and the bracket is different than the left. It's a long tube that is inserted in the hole.

Maybe if I find another bracket the same as the left side, it will be then ok.

you can see what the bracket looks like on this link... it's the bumper I purchased.

The previous owner bought from the uk, and never had a chance to install it.

That long tube bracket is for the front Euro bumper not the rear, that is your problem. You need two rear brackets, they are both the same at the rear. The front has one that is different to accommodate a tow hook. I'll post pics in a while...

...actually Eric I cannot see how you could fit the 944 front bracket on the rear, you must have some other bracket. Here is a full set of 944 Euro bumper brackets. Three are the same and the long one is for the front to accommodate the tow hook as mentioned.

If you are short of the correct rear mount I will bring you one over from the UK in November (If you can wait a few months).

but I have an insert on the rubber to accommodate a tow hook on the right side on it? So it is the right part, its need that long tube bracket.

But I'm never going to use it, I don't have the hook to screw it in. I have I does KLR rear towing brackets.

I'm also pretty sure that if I find a none tube bracket, the fit is going to be better (because it is on the other side).

So does anybody have a spare bracket?

thanks

The rear turbo/S2 euro bumpers have a different bracket to accommodate the tow hook and presumably the bumper is also a bit different.
If you mix them up it won't fit .You either need a 8v/S bumper with short brackets like in MAGK944's picture or a turbo/S2 bumper with it's original mounts.

Yep, I was going to bring a few sets back on my next trip anyway and will ship the bumpers over also together with a long list of parts including euro pistons, rear battery trays, etc

What I'll do is that I'll grind off the tip those small brackets (about 1/4'') and also grind the holes inside the fiberglass bumper a bit bigger. I should be able to gain more space and have the bumper well align that way.

There's not much I can do with the long tube bracket, I would I to grind way to much, and then I wouldn't be able to fit the socket into the bottom hole the tight the screw in.... meaning I would have to grind the bottom part of the bumper. I don't want to do that, specially that I just paid 300$ to get it freshly painted.
