Default Removing my HVAC unit

Everything is out of the inside of my car aside from the big ol' HVAC unit.
I see two bolts at the top, other than that, what do I need to remove to pull it out?

Do I need to remove the bolts that hold the manifold to the firewall? Or can I just disconnect the hoses somehow?

Thanks

Why is rennlist down so often? Is it always like this?

I removed all the hoses at the firewall today as well as the plate that bolts up to it.
After removing the two nuts at the top of the HVAC unit I still can't get it out. It wiggles around but it feels stuck somewhere.

I took out the blower motor and all the screws around it that I could see, but the bottom plastic girdle for the blower motor appears to be sealed to the body.
Do I have to pry it off first?

I hope someone can help, this thing is whoopin my ***.

I think I looked there pretty hard. They have a write up on how to get the dash out, which I used, and a couple on hvac problems but none on how exactly to get it out of the car. I even searched the boards there and here for HVAC remove(al)(ing).

Unless it's called something I didn't think to look for, I can't find anything.

The pictures on clarks are good for seeing the unit as a whole, there appears to be a tab at the top rear but I think I got that one as part of the blower cover.

Ask a dismantler... IIRC, the heater/AC box is just about the last thing to come out of the car.

There is also a hose at the very back of the unit that is attatched to it that might be the problem if the whole unit is loose. i just took mine out last week and kinda if remember the same, 'almost there, but not quite' problem

Did you have to remove the lower blower motor housing under the windshield?
What kind of hose? vacuum hose? drain hose?

Thanks for the info

Nope, i didnt remove the blower unit. the hose on the back just seemed to be a drain hose. it was on there pretty good too.

Looking through your posts I think you have an 84 which would have an early unit.
Mine is probably different.

I do appreciate the help, though!

I had to pry the lower girdle off, and push the whole unit down then it kinda fell out.

The 4 nuts on the firewall where the hoses are
The 2 on the top of the unit behind the dash

After that there is a tab in the back that connects it to the firewall just under the blower motor. The bolt for the girdle is the same as this one as it goes through both pieces, so you may get lucky and only have to remove this one.
But I had to remove the whole blower motor assembly as it was hanging me up on trying to pull it out.
