Default Value of '87 951 Turbo, 101,xxx miles

I'm preparing to sell my '87 951 Turbo with 101,xxx miles and I'd like to get some opinions on value. Here is an overview of the car:

Four mindful owners, the first three were in southern California and I am located in Michigan - never driven in snow or rain, garaged and covered when not driven, no accidents, wrenched by experienced Porsche-specific mechanics.

Sale includes original owner's manual and window sticker, some maintenance documentation, car cover, battery maintainer, sunroof cover and old parts (cat converter and pipes and original turbo).

Major reconditioning at 85,000 miles, including all re-painted original Guards Red, seals, belts, tune-up, hoses, filters, water pump, power steering, brake pads and rotors, exhaust system with cat bypass system, koni front shocks, Windward racing clutch, 993 wheels, head shaved 15/1000ths and "o ringed", new radiator, new "S" turbo, minor hoses, gaskets, hardware, basically a complete reconditioning at 85,000 miles.

Tires replaced 3,000 miles ago, brakes 15,000-20,000 miles ago, timing belt replaced 4,000 miles ago (8 years ago).

Properly stored in the winter months with fuel stabilizer, over-inflated tires and battery maintainers.

Bought from 3rd owner in May 2003. At the time, there was 93,000 miles on the car. Previous owner invested $15,888 in upgrades and replacements at 85k miles and I have approximately $5,000 into the vehicle during my 9 years of ownership.

Estimated 350 horsepower. Original owner installed performance chip.

No deferred maintenance except for a slight oil leak on the bottom of the engine (not major per local Porsche mechanic), slight power steering line leak/seap, a/c does not blow cold and Weltmeister sway bar bushings need replacement.

Interior is very clean with no dash cracks or seat rips/tears.

Most maintenance records available from original owner through current ARE available. Not complete, but certainly more than most 25 year old vehicles.

List of work done while I owned the car:

June 2003 (~94,000 miles) - oil/filter, adjust timing belt
August 2004 (100,740 miles) - oil/filter/plugs, fuel filter, clean and re-oil air filter, replace rear brake light bulb, replace washer pump motor, replace left control arm, replace timing and balance shaft belts, tensioners and rollers, brake flush, replace TDC sensor
July 2006 (101,096 miles) - oil/filter, cam housing reseal, adjust air flow meter, new tires (Toyo T1-R's), gear oil change, brake flush

Any input on value is greatly appreciated. I may list the car for sale on the Rennlist classifieds, however I do have a potential local buyer at this point.

Thanks!

Howdy.. nice turbo.
IMHO
Assuming the car runs well and doesn't emit blue or white smoke:
If you re-replace the timing ( and the other belts), fix the A/C expansion valve, replace the bushings and all fluids then $11,450.
If the new buyer will have to do all this, then $10,350.
Good luck! Should sell right quick..

Thanks Virginia F1. I'm assuming a buyer would also want the oil leak (balance shaft?) and power steering seap addressed. Any other opinions on value?

id say 8g, only because it seems like the car doesn't get driven much plus the cost on the new owners part to get the car towed home because most wouldn't drive on an 8yr old t-belt. plus the tires which while new by milage, would mean they were done 6-7yrs ago, based on time.

how are the brake rotors? covered or not, it's stored outside in michigan, a very rust prone region of the country. which to be fair the fluid leaks would prevent rust on the bottom of the car where its soaked with oil(still better rust protector than factory).

The tires are in excellent condition with no flat spots and plenty of tread remaining. Brake rotors are fine. It's not stored outside. It is stored covered in a garage. The fluid leaks are minor and do not cover the bottom of the engine. There is no rust on the car, period. This car has never seen rain, snow, salt, etc. It passed a recent PPI with flying colors other than the issues addressed in my original post.

While the market is soft nationwide, Odu's plain lowball figure without any backing information can be ignored as an outlier. Value can also depend on the area. Depressed economies like Michigan are going to see better buys for cars available there. That one above looks worth checking out, to fly and drive home as I did with mine from TN last year.

Yours is in better shape and has seen more recent reconditioning than most. I don't think I'd take a doller under $10k for it.

Is that meant to be comparable to my car? Maybe your point was to say that the new paint, wheels, transmission, re-built top end, "S" turbo, etc are worth $5k plus more than that beat up 951?

Precisely... Odu's $5,300 is definitely out there but not for the updates your car carries... In my 13 months on this board, I've seen values all over the map for similar cars... Based on locale, seller expectations, etc...

I'd posit that no Rennlister would pay my $10 grand estimate but we represent a sliver of the buyer community... Dont we?

I would say between $8K and $10K (in Canada). The fact that the belt need to be done hurts the value, as do the maintenance issues, especially non-functioning A/C, despite the limited mileage. I know of really good cars up here going for $11 to 13K and that would put the value in the range stated. So in the US, my guess would $7K to $9K. I would consider the car at those values.

Default now, now....

we all can agree on 1 thing; we like the car in the op. and i'm sure the owner is a great guy.

but, anyone with any links (they can post) of the 944Ts offered on RL that have sold for north of $9 K, please step forward....

i would tend to think at the very minimum - those cars would be in this category;

https://rennlist.com/forums/for-sale...-10-000-a.html

(and again, i'm not posting in any way to cast aspersions, and set one car above the other in any attempt to embarrass the op. but this is a car forum and we are asked to state our honest opinions without regrets)....

i think the 5th post of this thread and the link i just posted tell a sobering, yet, true story.

this is precisely why i caution 944 n/a buyers to be extremely careful when paying top dollar.

due to the what you can get for a few dollars more context...... turbos and 968s are a bargain by comparison.

now, turn to post 48.... very sad. no takers for this amazing car.

https://rennlist.com/forums/for-sale...0-000-a-4.html

i'm just not sure what the future holds for the 944. but i don't see how anyone here can like what they're seeing.

i hope the op understands; it's nothing personal.
