My drain plug is leaking. I have tightened it a lot. Not sure if i just need a new seal ring or if theres another problem.

Should just need a new washer. They crush slightly and are supposed to be 1 time use as far as I know.

Yes - one-time usage on the sealing washer. Also, make sure there aren't two wasters on there! (Yes, I've seen that.)

They are so cheap why wouldn't you replace it every time? I order 5 filters and 6 gaskets each time.

Confession time....I have never replaced mine just always check it to make sure it is not leaking.

Really never took it that seriously. Is this a order online thing or will Autozone have them guys?

Had the same issue awhile ago.
Ended up picking installing a quick oil drain plug.

While working on a White steam car this spring a guy showed me how to anneal copper washers. It wasn't an oil drain plug but the same idea. The copper washers that you buy often are hard copper and don't squish when you tighten the plug. Heating the washer with a torch anneals it so that it will give and seal.

For me this applies more for the Saab oil drain as that's the only rig I have now with the copper washer on the oil drain plug. Perhaps some of the Porsche cars have that also.

The 944 ones are aluminum.

The problem usually is, after a few re-uses, the washers deform so much - even copper ones - that if you anneal them, they still won't work well.

Just replace the damn thing - they're not that expensive!

brought home my sons 86 944 after purchase, was dripping oil, was worried the plug was cross threaded. Turned out the PO had two crush washers, crushed and poorly aligned!
