I actually think a kind of "Americanized" version of a 944 would make it an outlaw. Think of it like an American Infantryman commandeering a Tiger Tank. A bit of recklessness with overwhelming power.

Sweet. Certainly much closer. Looks like he still had the bottom of the dash, it just blend in in black.

Kyle's (kab996) might classify as "outlaw" at least in interior..

Yep! That was one of the two cars I was thinking of.

I drove that car on the track a few years ago and it was a blast cause it was so light. Actually more fun than my MUCH faster 951 was.

His car is a great start.....but still more needs done! We were working on a cut down dash but that somehow fell through the cracks. I still have the dash.

I suppose that really depends on what you mean by Americanised.

To quote Pirelli "Power is nothing without control". Last thing I want is to turn my 951 into a 60s muscle car. Fun in a straight line, but worthless if you need to turn or stop.

The 944/951 outlaw needs to be a better version of itself. More power is certainly PART of the equation, but it must be met with equal parts handling and styling to achieve the balance the car was meant to have.

The essence of the driving experience must remain intact.

I've been thinkin about this too. A RGruppe version of a 944: low, wheels with lip, fat tires, stripped interior, and lots of patina!

My idea of one is
Turbo Cup interior
euro n/a body work
full weight reduction
17" early offset Fuchs
968 engine with S2 lsd gearbox

I have the first three 90% covered ,need the rest

I really like the idea of this. I did this to a Datsun Z car about 20 years ago. It was a lot of fun. Simple and a lot of fun, yet still streetable (Mine was barely streetable..it didn't even have a stereo) It would definately have to be an occasional use vehicle, and as such, I no longer have the time for such a project, though I have kept an eye out for an 87-88 S. Light enough platform, with a decent revving engine. Lightweight small wheels, dished would be preferred, no more than a 225 wide wheel to maximize traction vs rotating mass. I am now reminded of that red 924 in Iceland....yea...

So I just drew a line on the extra dash I have and my take the cut off wheel to it later today

I was staring under the hood and man there is a LOT of extra steel in these cars. EVERY bracket could probably take a few strategically placed holes from the drill press and not lose function.

Seems like lots of underhood extra fluff could go away and still have a driveable car. (Even leaving certain things alone like AC and power steering)

Give a 944 and a blank cheque to Rob Dickinson and you will get a work of art .

Mirrors and hatch hold downs like this would work for a outlaw, and maybe some interior ideas.
