Monoballs (Again)
#16
I have used the new-style 968 blocks on my street/mostly track car for three years. As I mentioned previously, I believe that solid caster blocks are overkill for your car.

Like Charlies says....
I haven't used monoballs, and won't be using them. I replaced original blocks with updated 968 blocks for $76 each.
There you go. Cheap. Original Porsche bags. Original engineering. What else is it that you're looking for?

Don't panic- merely doin' my homework. I'm stuck with the front monoballs for now but I just ordered the rear stock 968 ones, the upgrade for the 944s. Now I need to find a header...

No panic...but the night before last you were contemplating the cost difference between monoballs and 968 blocks, and looking for feedback.
Sorry bout that

Hey, I'm gruntled! Until I took off the existing monoballs and looked at them I really did expect to pay more for the rear ones, certainly Paragon was charging 113 each for the stock ones so monoballs were right in the ballpark. Now the stock ones have dropped to 76 and what I saw when I looked at the 2 week old monoballs, plus all your great input, convinced me. They should arrive early next week.

There are a few more advantages to the aluminum arms than already mentioned:
1. They are lighter so less unsprung weight and therefore more responsive handling.
2. The aftermarket ball joint kits are very good and available in many options.
3. You can fit a geometry corrected ball kit that allows you to safely lower your car without suffering bump steer or running with angled arms.
4. You can fit any sway bar, including the 968 (30mm) M030 without worrying the weak steel mounting will fail.
All the aluminum a-arms on my cars are original and I've changed the ball joints (to aftermarket bronze) once in 26 years, so they are very reliable and require very little maintenance.
