My guess is an unforced error. See image... bolt on the left is a starter bolt, bolt on the right is a bellhousing bolt - similar but different thread pitch. Sorry, at least a few of us will be thinking about this thread when we are threading in those bolts that just don't feel right....Bruce

I may have driven the unthreaded part too far, but it was definitely the correct thread pitch on the bolts I used (I bought four new ones and triple checked the thread pitch on them). I think probably unknowingly bottomed the bolt out as someone mentioned earlier.

That being said, those two bolts DO look pretty similar.
