I have an S2 head, valve cover, intake, and other stuff you need if TechnoDuck's doesn't work out. It would be best if you'd provide a list. I may have all of it.

Well, I took the existing head off today and things do not look good. Cylinders #2 and #4 are scored. In my surprise though, what is left of the head looks in good shape. No bent valves have been found yet. The bottom pad of the chain tensioner shows more than likely why the top pad failed. At this point I will have to change the direction I wanted to go. I have decided to part out the engine bay and prep the car for a V8 conversion.

Head gasket looks like it was on its way out, but those cylinder walls look pretty good to me

I agree, those cylinder bores look like they have plenty of life in them still.

Well, I can feel the grooves when I slide my finger across them. I thought that is pretty bad.
The head gasket was more than likely shot because I found coolant in two of the cylinders.

I might have to get more opinions on that. More inputs, please.

This is what I would call bad scoring

those cylinders look just fine, i HIGHLY doubt those scores are any deeper than .001", i can catch a nail on .0002". my S2 has slightly worse scoring than that in cylinders #1, #2, and #3, and they all held good compression, cylinder #4 on the other hand...........well lets just say im getting my cylinders nikasil coated

I'm brand new here, but I'd be interested in the intake manifold if you've still got it and it is in decent condition. I've been looking to get an S2/968 manifold for my 87 944S project for some time now.

I apologize if this is poor etiquette for a first post. Thanks,

James

Ideally with the TB and cable, too.

if he parts it, you'll need this stuff too:

AOS-- ANY other 944 has the air/oil separator that works, 8V, turbo, S2...whatever. Seriously--the 944S piece is specific. Do yourself a favor and replace the AOS seals, too.

throttle cable--S2 only. the cruise cable works either way.

airbox--S2 only. It fits in the nose between the headlights. You have to unbolt the center panel (not hard--well documented.)

AFM mount--S2 only. one's for sale right now for $15 in the classifieds.

boot from AFM to TB, boot from airbox to AFM, IAC hoses--S2 specific. see if you can get them thrown in with the intake. it's how I got mine. The idle air control motor is the same for S/S2.

little vacuum tubes/connectors--they're a little different, but with some 5/64 vacuum hose you'll get everything connected right.

modify dipstick tube--bend it--you'll see where it has to bolt to. DON'T bend it much or the stick won't go in, and then you have to take it out like 7 times to get it right. You can just get an S2 one, though.

modify (lengthen) TPS wiring--no way around this. You could splice wires into the middle of the wiring, or do as I did and rob a parts harness and cut a big chunk out and add to the end. the S2 harness won't just lay down and work, so don't bother buying one. everything else plugs in if you tug on the harness here and there.

modify fuel dampener lines (replace) OR use S2 fuel rail--you'll see why. The S hangs the dampener way out on the intake manifold, and the S2 doesn't. So, either get the S2 rail or simply space the dampener out...that's what I did using a really long 6mm bolt and a bunch of spacers (I used nuts for the getto fabulous feel.) Also, I'd recommend putting new fuel hoses to the dampener--yours almost certainly are as bad as mine were. Use 5/16 fuel injection hose ONLY--don't get cheap and use low pressure stuff. Cut off the old hoses, measure, cut, and secure with fuel injection hose clamps.
