Default 89 s2 strut replacement

I've got an 89 S2 with the M474 option. I'm told I will need struts and strut mounts (at least the rhs). I assume you replace both lh/rh together in the front, not just one side? Car is completely stock and in pristine condition with 49,000 miles, looking for your thoughts on options/part #'s/costs?......is it an easy DIY job?? Thanks!!!

IMHO, the Koni struts, which are part of the M474 option, are quite robust and last a long time. Mine are still installed and I have over 100,000. They are also internally adjustable. They have to be removed from the vehicle, remove the spring, compress, engage the adjuster, and adjust. Both front and rear are adjustable. I went 1 turn more stiff in front and I think 1/2 turn more stiff in the rear, really transformed the performance. Great setup. Mine is also an '89 S2.

Replace struts in pairs, never one side at a time.

Konis are rebuildable, I think. I'm surprised you were told to replace it? What's it doing?

You can also get original replacements from pelican for $350 each for the m474's. The strut mounts are murderously expensive @ $500 a pop. Thank Jebus you don't have height adjustable suspension, those run $1200 a pop.

I'd rock the hacksaw/chopsaw method, i did it on my 944S and it worked out well. It'll help you pay for that strut mount, if it needs to be replaced.
