Hmmm. What's this wiring for?
Just putting everything back together after replacing water pump, timing and balance belts... and I'm not sure what this wiring is for.
It runs from top right, looking at the block, down to bottom left, and there's what looks like a sensor at the end. But I have no idea what it's actually doing, and it would be nice to know.
Plus, the outer insulation has gone very brittle and broke in several places during teardown/reassembly, and I should probably replace it.
(It's an '87 right-hand drive UK 944 Turbo, with factory AC, btw)
[Edit: new pics added below]

OK then... got a couple of better pics of that sensor/thingumabob.
Quick notes:
• Yes, other wires in this set terminate at what I believe is the oil pressure sensor, but this also hangs off the end.
• On closer inspection, the shape of the plastic casing suggests that it fits into something else - but I don't recall ever removing it from anything.
• The state of it - really quite greasy and dirty - suggests that if it should be plugged into something, it hasn't been for a while and therefore probably isnlt all that important.
