Default Painted dash trim

My dash trim has been broken between the a/c controls and the hazard switch for a good long time. My interior is all black which can be dull and uninspiring IMHO. So, I decided to paint the broken piece to see how it'd look. (I've got to replace it anyway so why not.) My car is slate gray metallic. So, I painted the broken trim piece that color. What do y'all think?

Looks good - what brand and type of paint did you use?

The paint is touch up paint I bought to re-do my sunroof, headlight covers and header. (No, I haven't done them yet.) The best part it was factory matched and in spray cans!

I got it about a year ago online but can't recall the vendor. I'll check tonight and post details then.

I have the same interior except my long center console is linen and my Momo wheel is red anodized.

Did either of you prime prior to painting? I am doing this on my car soon and I am going with a lighter surface color than you (Guards Red), so I am planning on priming (with light grey or white) so that the black plastic underneath doesn't "darken" the top coat. How many coats of paint did you use, did you go with any clearcoat (satin or gloss) for protection afterward? Did you have any clearance/tight fit issues around any of the screw cover inserts or dash buttons?

I am also going to do the panels behind the wiper and turn signal stalks to get the unbroken line effect. Not sure if I am going to do any of the vents yet, or just a portion of them.

I did this a few years ago on my orange car (with all black interior) and I've always loved the way it looks against the all-black. I also painted the center console trim piece and the ash tray. I say do it!!

This has to be one of the easiest "upgrade" projects ever. 10 minutes (at best) you have the parts removed, 5 minutes they are painted, 20-30 minutes to dry and 10 minutes(at best) back on the car.

I think I spent more time researching where to get the paint!

Good Job! imo 100% better that the stick on fake trim options out there. I've always wanted "Piano Black" trim there instead of the faded black/brown trim I currently have, might have to give this a go.
