Default radiator fitting for overflow hose

ok, so other than over-tightening, what would cause this thing to break w/regularity? i replaced it about 6 mos ago, then again a few weeks ago (by our wonderful neighborhood mechanic todd (also a member here), this was after buttoning up an oil-cooler seal, and it broke again saturday. all at the same point--about 1/3 the way down the threads. currently awaiting a new one, well two new ones. when i put it on i went hand tight and then 1/4 turn, so i can't imagine i overtightened it--i also added some permatex. of course that made taking it out challenging for todd, but it came out w/o too much difficulty. when he changed it, he put nothing on the threads, just used the fiber gasket/washer. i also have a new expansion tank cap. so, i am at a loss here. any advice would be greatly appreciated. oh yeah, how does everyone feel about replacing w/a brass/metal fitting? thanks!
btw, it's on the 87.

When I replaced my radiator I over-tightened it and I broke it. I had to order a new one and when I put it in I used the fiber gasket and some teflon tape on the threads. I wouldn't use Permatex. A brass fitting? May be a good idea, may be a bad idea. Granted the fitting wouldn't break but you're gonna have to be incredibly careful with the plastic on the radiator. Not a bad idea but be careful.
