Default Did early cars have 2 different 02 sensor connections?

After looking at mine, there's a barrel shaped plug which connects into another barrel shaped plug just above the R/S sensors. Then there's a two prong plug just above that which is empty (nothing is connected to it). The current 02 sensor is plugged into the barrel shaped plug. I pulled it apart and some orange plastic bits crumbled apart.

After doing some parts searching I found this one on paragon which uses the two pronged connection

Or there's the universal single wire one as well.

Does it matter which one gets used?

I believe the early cars did not have a heated O2 sensor. Sounds like someone replaced yours with a universal, heated sensor somewhere along the way.
The early DME did not allow the O2 sensor to do much, all the fuel/air mixture was based on the air flow and RPM maps. The O2 sensor was only allowed a very small range of modification to help fine tune emissions. In reality, there will be no noticeable performance difference if you have a bad or non-functioning O2 sensor; although it might be a problem if you need to pass an emissions test.

Ok, I figured the two prong plug was for a heated unit. It looks factory though, the wires from it feed into the whole wire loom, then down into the dash.

Yes they had 2 different ones. Federal cars had unheated o2's while California cars had heated o2 sensors.

So what happens if I put a heated sensor in it?

Mine crumbled apart too. What are you going to use in its place?

I don't know. I'll post a pic of it and see what you guys think.

When I pulled it apart, there's a male end sticking out. The end from the 02 sensor obviously has a female end. I stuck it back together, although it looks like it was never really meant to come apart in the first place.
